![]() We walked about 8 miles that day.Ī recent trip to Los Angeles was lovely in part because we stayed at the Millennium Biltmore hotel downtown, literally across the street from the Los Angeles Central Library, an institution I grew to love while reading Susan Orlean’s The Library Book. All of us enjoyed our meals, which included veggie tacos, sautéed scallops and shrimp fajitas.īut food wasn’t the only attraction, and Sarah and got to spend time exploring the Museum of Contemporary Art and shopping in the Fashion District. The dark dining areas twinkle with candles and lanterns. I pulled out the drawer and to find tiny individually wrapped corn tortillas blanketing grilled shrimp and ready to customize with salsas, chopped onion and cilantro. I had street tacos that were served in a warm wood box with tiny bowls of condiments on top. Guacamole was served with plantain and tortilla chips. but the dining highlight with the kids had to be dinner at Toca Madera, which just opened a restaurant in Scottsdale and hired our daughter as a hostess. A late dinner after a work-related reception for John took us to Karl Strauss Brewing Co. Lunch one day was at the Grand Central Market from Prawn and Press Brothers Juicery before heading to Santa Monica to see the ocean. Our college-student kids joined us for a couple of days in Los Angeles, and food is always top of mind. I’m not sure about the dimensions, but it will be fun seeing our artwork blown up big! We’ll be celebrating that show next week with a reception 5 p.m. The hallway walls outside my studio will be freshly painted and hung with work by Katrina and me. I’ll have a few new pieces and selected favorite paintings and woodcuts. The annual winter open house is Saturday and Sunday at Hot Shops Art Center and we’re moving into the center’s 20th year! And I’ll be riding my trusty commuter, Sage, a machine that reminds me about some of the reasons I ride, including seeing the ride itself as a creative act. I’m taking a small sketchbook, watercolors and pens with me and plan to revive regular postings here inspired by my trip. I’m hoping to ride about 200 miles over the week and am really looking forward to rolling through the state’s distinctive and beautiful Sandhills. We set out tomorrow morning for Alliance, Neb., for the beginning of the Bike Ride Across Nebraska with a plan to split the miles each day between us. ![]() Will we have fun and adapt as necessary to support one another? yes, almost certainly Will my old Honda Odyssey will run faithfully for our little crew making the trip? probably ok with its recent repairs and checks and Have I’ve gathered everything I’ll need? probably not As I take a break from packing for a weeklong biking/camping trip, I’m thinking: ![]()
